Owen Campbell Returns with First Studio Release in Six Years: Cosmic People
Owen Campbell has just released Cosmic People – his first studio EP in six years – on August 7.
Based in Newcastle, the blues/rock musician is no stranger to success, with multiple bestselling albums and a global touring and recording career spanning nearly two decades. But in recent years, Campbell has taken a step back from the road to focus on raising his young sons, Harry (4) and Charlie (9).
“After having children, I’ll never complain about the challenges of being a touring musician again,” Campbell laughs. “Just getting kids in and out of the car is a full-time job!”
He adds, “I made a conscious decision to be at home during these formative years and put my career aside. But I reached a point where I realised that creating music isn’t just a job – it’s essential for my mental health. Writing is a deeply spiritual experience for me, and that’s where Cosmic People began.”
Describing the EP, Campbell says: “Cosmic People encapsulates both the winter of despair and the warmth of spring. It’s a reminder that we’re more than screen-addicted beings – and that a beautiful world is waiting for us to reconnect.”
The EP was recorded and mixed at The Rabbit Hole Recording Studio with Brandon Dodd – renowned guitarist and engineer with the Kasey Chambers band.
“Brandon is a phenomenal musician and engineer. His balance and professionalism far exceed his years. We clicked musically right away—it was one of the best recording experiences of my life,” says Campbell. “I’m excited to release this as a stand-alone EP, but also as a taste of what’s to come. A full-band studio album is planned for 2026.”
